COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION & SPLASH PAD CONSTRUCTION BEGINS

On April 17, 2025, the Fort McDowell Community Economic Development Department hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Community Park Revitalization & Splash Pad Project, which is now officially underway. Today marks the beginning of an exciting transformation of the park area located north of the Fort McDowell Recreation Center into a vibrant new community destination. This revitalization effort aligns with the community’s long-term goal of enhancing the quality of life for current and future generations.
Soon, this space will be alive with the sounds of music and laughter, the smells of delicious cookouts, and the energy of shared experiences. It will offer a tranquil place for conversation and reflection, serve as an outdoor classroom, and provide a setting for community gatherings in a refurbished multi-use field. New amenities will include an adult fitness zone, a winding walking path with three distance options, and a culturally enriching Talking Circle for classes like the Yavapai Language program hosted by the Culture Center. At the heart of the revitalization is the highly anticipated Splash Pad—a vibrant 500-square-foot water zone with a colorful foam surface, designed to bring joy to children and families while also contributing to the landscape by supporting surrounding trees through water runoff. A new 7,800-square-foot fall surface will be installed using a combination of wood fibers and rubberized materials, and picnic areas will be scattered throughout the park for gatherings and relaxation.
The $3 million project is funded through a combination of tribal resources and Federal Highway Transportation grant funds. Kitchell Construction has been selected as the General Contractor, with Project Executive Todd McMillen overseeing the build. Dig Studios, the landscape architect, has thoughtfully translated the community’s vision into an inclusive and sustainable design.
As we break ground on this revitalization project, we celebrate more than just construction—we honor a shared commitment to community, culture, and connection. When complete, this revitalized park will not only reflect the spirit of Fort McDowell but also serve as a space where memories are made, traditions are passed on, and community continues to thrive for generations to come.
