WEIGHT LIFTING 101: PICKING UP GOOD TIPS
By Harrison J. Bahe
Working out can be difficult and incredibly intimidating. Imagine this. You know you want to work out, you get a gym membership, you show up, and you see a literal jungle gym in front of you. Various workout machines, dumbbells, and even some equipment that looks like it belongs in a Saw film. Intimidating. Well, don’t you worry because fitness specialist Andrew Gonzalez is here to help with the basics of weight lifting. Gonzalez is hosting a Weight Lifting 101 class down in the Weight Room at the Rec Center this August.
“This class is an opportunity for individuals to come in and [for] me [to] provide assistance with program design as far as [what] exercises to do or what’s best for their situation,” Andrew Gonzalez says who can help with other training regimes for “weight loss, strength training, conditioning, or even preparing for a 5K run!”
The benefits to strength training include weight loss, improved strength, boosts mood, improves mental health, boosts metabolism, improves sleep, and generally improves quality of life. Gonzalez can introduce you to the basics of resistance and strength training with his class. “In my professional opinion, if people want to lose weight, they should be doing resistance training.”
“I think this is something that people might not feel comfortable with. So, my goal is to provide comfort and knowledge and that way, people feel comfortable with coming in here and not intimidated with this Weight Room. It can be intimidating for somebody who’s new, somebody who doesn’t know what they’re doing. So, you know, I’m here to help!” Andrew’s next Weight Lifting 101 class is on August 12th and August 19th at 12pm down in the Weight Room at the Rec Center.
