On June 25, 2025, the kindergarten class of the H’man Shawa Early Childhood Development Center proudly stepped into their next chapter as they were officially promoted to first grade! The milestone was marked with a heartfelt and joy-filled graduation ceremony held in the school cafeteria, which was packed with proud families, staff, and community members there to cheer on the rising stars.

Ten bright and beaming kindergarteners, dressed in red caps and gowns accented by vibrant yellow stoles, took their places at the front of the room. Principal Mike Brown welcomed everyone and introduced the honored Class of 2025. The event began with an opening prayer delivered by Vice President Paul Russell, grounding the moment in gratitude and tradition.

The celebration continued with the graduates singing the traditional Yavapai Anthem, accompanied by Songoee Lindsey and Micah Pilcher on drums. This was followed by a cheerful rendition of It’s a Beautiful Day, setting the tone for the joyous occasion. President Sandra Pattea addressed the crowd next, offering heartfelt encouragement and inspiring words about the bright futures that await each of the young students.

Principal Brown then took to the stage once more to hand out diplomas and special achievement awards to each graduate. A touching slideshow played behind them, featuring a personalized page for every student. These showcased their favorite “walk-up” songs, their dreams for the future (with many aspiring to become police officers to “catch the bad guys”), what they learned this year, their favorite books, and their most cherished kindergarten memories.

One of the ceremony’s highlights was a creative performance of Hey, I’m Going to First Grade — a fun twist on Take Me Out to the Ball Game — rewritten to celebrate this important academic milestone. The event concluded with warm closing remarks from their beloved teacher, Miss McKenzie Lewis, who shared how proud she was of each student’s growth and accomplishments throughout the year.

Principal Brown wrapped up the evening by thanking all attendees for their continued support and for celebrating this special group of students. Families were then invited to enjoy refreshments and take home their child’s art projects, proudly displayed in the school’s hallways. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
