MCIC GIVES REC CENTER NEW LIFE

On December 9, 2025, MCIC, a medical liability insurance company that provides coverage for doctors, nurses, and hospitals, joined forces with a group of 86 volunteers to breathe new life into the Fort McDowell Recreation Center. The volunteer team repainted portions of the building’s exterior, cleaned windows, completed landscaping improvements, donated new patio furniture, and completely refurbished the Teen Room, transforming it into a welcoming space for youth.
The Teen Room upgrade included the installation of a 75-inch Panasonic 4K Fire TV, a new sectional couch, and an area rug that tied the room together, creating a comfortable and modern environment for young community members to gather, relax, and spend time together.
MCIC is a remote-based organization that gathers in person approximately every 18 months. As part of their company tradition, these meetings include a large-scale volunteer project. For this project, MCIC partnered with HandsOn Greater Phoenix, a nonprofit volunteer management organization that connects volunteer groups with community needs. Through this partnership, they coordinated with the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and selected the Recreation Center as a site in need of revitalization.
The work was completed in just over two hours, with volunteers spreading out across the facility to tackle different tasks. One group focused on exterior painting, while others cleaned and organized the Teen Room, assembled new patio furniture, and installed the new sectional couch. Additional teams handled window cleaning and landscaping, adding fresh rock and improving the overall curb appeal of the nearly 30-year-old building.
“We’re just really excited to be able to help the Yavapai Nation out, and it’s good for us and it’s good for you,” said Sandy Garbovan, Director of Corporate Services and Communications for MCIC.
By the end of the project, the transformation was immediately visible. The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and its members extend a heartfelt thank you to MCIC and its volunteers for their time, effort, and generosity in helping give the Nation’s Recreation Center new life.
