On February 13th , 2025, ‘Hmañ shawa ECDC facilitated its annual King and Queen of Hearts fundraiser. Each year, children decorate empty cans and do their best to raise funds to be awarded King and Queen of Hearts for their classroom. All students were given prizes as this is not meant to be a competitive event, but a friendly fundraiser for the school. This year the school raised almost $13,000.00. In previous years, the funds have been used towards playground equipment, computer software, field trips, and graduation caps. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend PAC meetings to voice their ideas on how the funds could be used in the future. Prior to the event, the children exchanged Valentine’s Day cards, and the creativity of their boxes were amazingly elaborate and artistically creative.

Once the winners from each classroom were announced, children then participated in arts and crafts projects with their classroom and enjoyed a pizza luncheon.

“[We had] another successful King and Queens of Hearts Event. We raised almost $13,000. We appreciate the continued support of the community, Tribal Council, and all the families.
