FMYN STUDENTS WIN FREE IPADS

On August 1, 2025, the Yavapai Indian Foundation hosted a celebratory event at the We-Ko-Pa Golf Course conference room, where a group of Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation students were awarded free iPads.

Seated around an oblong conference table were students Mariana Nephi, Jay Majesty Hall, Hiram Doka-Nephi, Malarie Miller, and Marius White. The gathering kicked off with a heartfelt speech by Raphael Bear, who highlighted the Foundation’s recent accomplishments, including funding the vegetable garden at the H’man Shawa Early Childhood Development Center, supporting the Senior Services office, and organizing an annual golf tournament.

Bear also spoke about their most recent fundraising effort: a formal dinner hosted under the stars, a nod to the area’s designation as a certified Dark Sky Community, thanks to neighboring Fountain Hills. The dinner welcomed business partners and supporting organizations who have contributed to the Foundation’s mission over the years.

Each iPad given to the students came paired with a wireless keyboard, enhancing its utility for both academic and personal use. Representing the Foundation at the event were board members Raphael Bear, Clissene Lewis, Alicia Balderaz, and Imogene Hosay. “iPads are really good things to have,” Hosay shared. “To keep your dates on track and your assignments. I really hope you put these iPads to good use.”

Bear followed with an encouraging message about perseverance and the power of education.
“Don’t forget to get back up because you’re going to be knocked down a lot of times. In school, in work, you’re going to be knocked down a lot of times, but you must get back up. Don’t ever stay down. Get back up.”

After the remarks and a round of applause, the iPads were formally presented to the students, followed by a group photo to commemorate the moment. The event ended on a high note, filled with smiles, gratitude, and renewed motivation for the students heading into the new school year.
