FMYN FIRE DEPARTMENT CHILI FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS

On December 17, 2025, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Fire Department hosted its annual chili fundraiser, drawing a strong turnout and a resounding success. The department raised a total of $2,644 through the sale of its signature chili, mini frybread, cornbread, and hot chocolate: the latter two were generously donated by the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort.

In previous years, proceeds from the fundraiser supported children in the community with vision needs, such as assistance in obtaining eyeglasses. With that program now thriving, the Fire Department chose to direct this year’s funds to the H’man Shawa Early Childhood Development Center (HECDC).

The fundraiser was made possible through collaboration with East Valley firefighter charities and IAFF Local 2260, a progressive and innovative local of the International Association of Fire Fighters. These partners contributed essential ingredients for the event and even donated an additional $800 to the cause.

“Every year we’re just trying to grow it and give back to the community,” said Engineer Paramedic Mike Ruiz of B Shift.

“It seems to be a big hit every year, so we just want to do what we can for the community.”

And a hit it was! The lunch rush sold out in less than thirty minutes. For the evening crowd, the Fire Department added a festive touch by setting up a sleigh for children, complete with a special appearance by Santa Claus, who took time out of his busy holiday schedule to pose for photos.

The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Fire Department takes pride in giving back to the community it serves. For those who missed this year’s fundraiser, there’s no need to worry, the chili will be back next season!
